merci: white story

I love poking around Merci's selection of clothing, home goods and stationary. For many the store is a must-see when visiting Paris. I was eager to stop by and check out their new exhibit called "White Space". After doing so I have completely fallen in love with their linen bedding and waffle-knit towels. I'm seriously obsessed.

The bedding section was buzzing with people so I couldn't get a picture of the inviting bed set-up they had, but it looked pretty dreamy: layers of lightweight crinkled linen sheets and pillows. In other words: spring/summer bed heaven. Just throw in a Pia Wallen cross-blanket when it gets chilly and I am set.

On the way I was so happy to walk by some new chalk-drawing from Philippe Baudelocque, who I blogged about here and here.

shop visit: mona moore

Mona Moore has long been one of the shining beacons in Canadian online stores that actually carry brands I am interested in. Their storefront did not disappoint, designed like a long pink gauntlet of footwear from the likes of my favourite Belgians Ann, Dries, Haider, along with selections from Rick Owens, Marni, Lanvin, Pierre Hardy, Marsèll, Rodarte and leather goods from ma+ and Balenciaga.

They also carry a brand I had never heard of, but of which I should have: A Moment In... It is a group of nine multi-disciplinary designers under the direction of Anne Chapelle, who also directs Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann.

"No egos, no designer names, just products"

I really like these low-heeled oxfords and how the laces wrap around and around. A Moment In... also does amazing knitwear.

shop visit: phil'z 20th century furniture

Montréal continued....Just a few shops down from The Sparrow, where we ate brunch, is Phil'z 20th Century Furniture. The window display had me salivating, with driftwood globe lamps, danish chairs, 6-ft tall baskets, and gigantic blown glass pendants.

The shop is chock full of industrial goodies, including side tables, dining tables, Tolix chairs and stools, lamps and shelving units in addition to mid-century furniture and lighting.

This console is my dream console. Old and battered industrial-ish bottom (it was metal or maybe zinc?) with a marble top. Drool. I also wanted to take home the stool in the above photo. The boy never likes my taste in interiors, unfortunately, so I dream of the day I can have my own art/design studio so I can decorate it exactly as I like!

If my budget wasn't severely restricted right now, I would have been carting home a few things. Namely that stool, which I am still thinking about.

shop visit: reborn

After we made our way into the city from the airport, we had an hour or two before stores closed and headed to Old Montréal to check out Reborn. It is a long narrow store with clothing rails down one side, jewelry displayed on the opposite wall, and shoes towards the back behind a large black glossy storage unit.

(This is the view from the back of the shop)

Yes, the Gareth Pugh triangle clutch!

The Sandra Backlund pieces were my absolute favourite. I LOVE this top- it's amazing! I have a feeling you might be able to wear something like this in Montréal and not get a second look. Not once (that I saw) did anyone gawk at my sartorial choices (drop crotch trousers and tabi boots namely) like they sometimes do in Vancouver. I was thrilled.
