Rick Owens Spring 2012

rick owens spring 2012

Sometimes it takes a while for me to warm up to a collection, even by one of my favourite designers. Rick's last spring collection was one of those, and looking at it now I can say that I must have been bat-shit crazy. Nevertheless, once I had some time to stare at the photos in the time between the runway show and when garments actually hit the stores (and in some cases, when they were on their way out of stores!), I came to really love Rick's Spring '12 vision. Seeing things in person really helps. I even came to like the rusty orange!

I'd love to get my hands on a few items, namely one of the oversized leather cord tied tunics and a matching slim-line maxi skirt, not to mention one of the flare-sleeve jackets on the bottom row.

L.A. greenery

I just got back from a week in L.A. - Santa Monica to be exact, visiting my brother.

I think my favourite thing about visiting Southern California is the plants. I spent a lot of time taking pictures of plants, commenting on plants and trees, petting and oogling plants and landscaping everywhere I went. I just love cacti and succulents.

Other people were busy taking pictures of themselves in front of the Getty's view of L.A. while I was busy dangling off the edge of the railing taking beauty shots of the cacti below.

Unfortunately in my wet and cool climate (and with my black thumb and apartment's minimal natural light), cacti and succulents die a horrible, soggy, light-deprived death.

Rimowa Topas Stealth

Well, I believe I've finally found my dream luggage.

I am in pretty desperate need of a new carry-on sized roller bag. Both the wheels on my bag need to be briskly kicked into place every trip to keep from rolling off into the sunset!

On more than one occasion I've been close to purchasing the classic Rimowa Topas cabin-sized bag in aluminum. I don't care that it's a bit heavier than normal bags (being aluminum and all), I don't care that it will get dented and scratched and airline stickers will get stuck to it. It was the 1950's blue interior which always made me grimace and think twice.

Just now I was thinking- wouldn't it be great if you could customize a Rimowa (a black interior was all I was looking for) but a quick look at Rimowa's site has revealed to me a new Topas collection called "Stealth" in MATTE. BLACK. ANODIZED. ALUMINUM. YES.... YES.... YES!!! It's like the travel gods have answered my prayers. I'm hyperventilating a tiny bit.

Now if only this version didn't cost an arm and a leg! Slight flaw in my dream come true. BUT JUST LOOK AT IT:

Rick Owens Pup

Untitled-1

When I got a dog I said I would make her all kinds of outfits, but apparently I'm too lazy. Jayne found this little checkered coat for chesty dogs (isn't this little whippet/iggy sweet?! hard to tell which breed sometimes), and I immediately thought of Rick Owens Fall 2012. Maybe I will have to get around to making Santos some more clothes.

A much anticipated purchase showed up today, and alarmingly fast, but I guess that's to be expected when one pays 30 euros for postage.

The weather has been so awful here that I am still wearing boots. In July. My toes have not seen the light of day yet. I made some key purchases for spring to expand my wardrobe and haven't even been able to wear them yet.

With the weather not cooperating, I'm shopping a bit forward to fall and winter, and taking advantage of sales to collect a few things from prior seasons, including this scarf, from Rick Owens AW 2011.
