Field Studies

H. Lorenzo's first film in a series, featuring A1923, Boris Bidjan Saberi, Damir Doma and MA+

Next month I'll be heading to L.A. to visit my smarty-pants younger brother in Santa Monica. He moved down in January after graduating from UBC to work at a pharmaceutical company studying cancer research.

If anyone has any recommendations for food/sights/shops in LA, I'm all ears. I have quite a well-edited list going already, including H. Lorenzo of course.

I highly recommend taking a hike up to the Griffith Observatory from Ferndell at Los Feliz Blvd. Go before Sunset, and if you go on any day but Monday, get yourself an avocado sandwich at Trails Cafe (it's on the way up).

Elf is a wonderful restaurant in the Silver Lake/Echo Park Area on Sunset Blvd. Delicious food, intimate atmosphere, bring your own wine, and make a reservation.

If you like vintage shopping, I recommend Flounce on Echo Park Blvd.

I am happy to provide more (native Angeleno), but I am also aware that you are staying in Santa Monica and most of my suggestions won't be anywhere near you. However, if you drive up the PCH to Malibu and want to get lunch and sit on a nice beach, drive up to Malibu Seafood (little shack on the right), get fish and chips, then cross the highway and sit on the lovely beach on the other side.

My own brother worked for that company in Santa Monica (Although he transferred to San Diego not too long ago)! I wonder if they knew each other. Small world....
