random

I like to draw little pictures of clothes I want to check out in person- or else sometimes when I'm in a store I will forget!

I randomly popped into Aldo on a whim a few weeks ago, on the way to or from somewhere, probably Sephora, and really liked these bracelets. They are strands of thin overlapping metal cups.

I've been getting really into skincare lately, after a short obsession with makeup. I started to watch youtube videos on makeup a few months ago and got obsessed. I started writing out long lists of makeup I wanted, but realized that I need to get my skin sorted out first. And besides that, I really don't like to wear a lot of makeup, or don't like to look like I'm wearing a lot of makeup. I want to start getting regular facials, take better care of my eyebrows, nails, etc. But in my youtube makeup-guru rampage, I did find the perfect shade of foundation FINALLY after years and years of settling for a slightly-too-dark shade. Enter Bobbi Brown Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF 15 (whew) in 00 aka Alabaster aka white as fuck.

I'm getting into the habit of doing a quick sketch of clothing I see online or in a magazine so I can remind myself when I'm shopping too!

I really need to get my skin sorted out, too. 34 is too old to still be fussing. I'm actively trying to find a derm in NYC who isn't completely brutal - I've had bad experiences in the past.

jennifer- I'm glad I'm not the only one!

anna- yeah.. brutality is not good. I'm not down with extractions of any kind... makes my skin really angry and me cry. I'm going to test out a spa near my house that works with some new products I'm liking... I hope I won't be disappointed.

Those bracelets are gorgeous. Want.

Can you recommend any specific youtube gurus? The ones I've found are all a bit to makeup-artisty for my taste.
I mean, I like make up and wear it every day, but I get a little overwhelmed by those gurus that have you putting on like, 6 different skin-priming products. I'm not trying to be a drag queen for gods sake, I'm just trying to look a touch less haggard after a night of crappy sleep.

Since I refuse to wear makeup I've gotten into skincare too. So far I've found some products that work for me. I've read good things about the MB Drying Lotion and La Roche-Posay. I usually don't have a use for bracelets, but hmm...I may have to stop by, those are very tempting...

Oooh, 00 white as fuck sounds like just my shade. Any idea whether Bobbi Brown engages in animal testing?

I love those little sketches in your notebook. Paper and pen. Somehow it feels a lot more charming than just saving pictures in an iPad :)

i love the bioderma cleanser which i use as make up remover, very good & gentle that i keep using it for 3 years! And Giorgio Armani foundation is so far the best i have ever used, good coverage but not heavy, make your skin growing. :)

Great bracelets! People have been swearing over that Mario Badescu stuff for years .. does it really work?

shilo- I watch a bunch of different guru's for different reasons. Some because they wear makeup similar to how I like to, and some because they are fun to watch, or for their reviews on products. I like pixiwoo, easyaccessbeauty, lisasz09 (really good for product reviews), moodeve, xsparkage, whatstyleistonickel (the latter two mostly for entertainment) and a few other random ones for certain skincare product reviews or random makeup videos. I know there's oodles of people on youtube with makeup/skincare channels! Just do a search for some products you're interested in and see who's out there. I must say though, that primer has been my latest "how did I live without this before?" product find!

-h: Mario Badescu and La Roche-Posay are the 2 prevalent brands in my skincare army. I really like MB masks.

pilbaraface: no, they do not test on animals. only willing humans.

princessimp: and fun too!

wallis: I use the Bioderma cleanser as a makeup remover too. Unfortunately I didn't have good luck with Armani foundation!

Hal: I quite like their products and I do find that they work. Not a miracle product like some people say, but their stuff does work. I really like their face masks.

Three (cheap) products that have literally saved my skin in the past few months are: St Ives Daily Microdermabrasion (every night to take off makeup), Aspirin Mask (when needed) and taking Bentonite Clay liquid (for a week a month) - which I buy at Nutrition House‎ up on Robson and Bute.

I was skeptical at first about the Bentonite Clay, but it's amazing and really honestly works. There's something to be said about perfecting skin from the inside-out and it honestly works better than miracle cures and over drying-products.

You made me buy that bracelet.

Thanks Sarah, I'll research Bentonite Clay!

Have you tried NARS foundation in Siberia? I have problems finding foundation light enough and that's my absolute favorite. Can't live without it. Also, when I'm on a tighter budget, L'Oreal Perfect Match in the lightest color they have available (Porcelain, I think?) is decent, but the formula tends to dry out my skin after a while. Lauren

(in)decoroustaste- yep I tried both the sheer glow and sheer matte formulas in siberia and they were too dark. I heard Revlon colorstay is a good drugstore one but I haven't tried it personally!

Tried the Revlon- that one oxidizes on my skin! It looks good right out of the bottle, but an hour later it's super orange.

One other thing- MUFE makes a SUPER pale foundation that's too pale for me (I have yellower undertones to my skin, the MUFE is pinker/more neutral). My friend, who is albino, swears by it.

was it the HD one? I tried the lightest shade in that one and it was ok. I might switch to that one later.
