I seem to gravitate towards strange lighting, and these sputnik lights are no exception. I love their alien-esque shades and long willowy legs. They are almost animalistic.

The designer, Pepe Heykoop, has other lighting projects as well (along with chairs and other objects), including this flexible flower-like lamp. When the flower closes, the light turns off. See the video here!

Some of his designs are available for sale in a limited quantity here, like these leather lamp shades. The needle holes on the seams let light shine through at night. They were inspired by industrial lighting. I really like the black one. Also check out his portfolio/website for the "XXL" lamp shade that you can pull down over you and a guest at dinner for privacy!

I like the first one, very bizarre, but I like it too. the 2nd one reminds me of ET and those things from War of the Worlds (the newer one)
