nomiya palais de tokyo -> paris

so, it was a beautiful day when we had our lunch at nomiya, atop palais de tokyo. it was a great and interesting experience, and i got one of the best compliments one could get in paris. it wasn't until about half way through the 2.5 hour lunch that the waiter/host realized jon and i were english. he said that my pronunciation was so good that he thought i was french (and therefore didn't know to translate what he was serving into english). we had been following along somewhat. it's not like you have to worry about what they're serving. it was all fantastic, though i wasn't really a fan of the champagne jelly with salmon roe. but that's more personal taste.

i was so ridiculously full by this point that i couldn't even finish my dessert. blasphemy!

if you're going to be in paris, nomiya will be open until july 1, 2010

this day was the day that i really felt like i could live in paris/france. it was the personal and intimate experience of our lunch, with 10 parisian strangers (plus chef and waiter) of varying ages - an experience that couldn't be farther from the stereotype of the "snobbish and standoffish french attitude." even though i wasn't comfortable with the idea, it was actually nice to sit a table with a conversation going on in french and feel included, even though i couldn't understand half the words, or actively participate. i wanted it to be home for more than just the romantic, idealistic reasons.
