colour!

i just love this shade of purple mixed with black. notice that her sweater is the exact same shade as the dress. perfect. i really like the way the layers of the dress open up to reveal the (flat!) boots. i need a dress like this. (pics from dropsnap.jp)

new outfit

santos grew out of her puppy coat, so i decided to make her a new one. i can't wait until she's full grown because i got her this leather dog coat with shearling lining. very rick owens-esque. god i'm lame.



tonight jon was feeling sick and passed out, as did santos, so i was on my own. i knit her a little cowl with chunky wool while watching design shows and comedy central. haha- now we can match. this could get dangerous. i promise i won't dress her up in ridiculous outfits. only cool ones.

trying to teach santos how to burrow. i've heard whippets like to burrow, but she doesn't, which often leaves her with cold ears and toes.

sigh. i missed out on the 37.5 while emailing back and forth between the people at mona moore. at first the website said they were pre-order only and sold out, but in the emails they said they had them. i didn't realize that they put them live on the site just then, because the morning after they were sold out and i missed them. fuck.

they're going fast, so if you're a 36 or a 39.5 better hurry. and they're cheaper than buying them from the us. how is that possible? we will be together some day, demeulemeester sandal.



ps- i seriously cannot get behind this 'creeper' trend that some fashion bloggers are wearing/raving about. seriously. i'm embarrassed to say i wore them when i was younger.

on sunday we went to komakino for their last day. komakino brick and mortar is no more (online only, plus the store in berlin) so everything was 65% off. geez, first i lose richard kidd and now komakino. there isn't much left for me here! good thing i like shopping online.



i got these diet butcher jeans. i was admiring them in tokyo but never tried them on. they have really cool seaming on the front and back.




jon got me this number (n)ine waistcoat for a valentines present. as you may know i've wanted the perfect waistcoat for quite a while now, and this one definitely is perfect. fitted and long, satin shawl collar, velvet covered buttons, and of course beautifully constructed.

happy love day!

the best part of valentines day is feb. 15th when all the candy goes on sale. i'll see you tomorrow chocolate covered marshmallow hearts!

jon and i saw 'let the right one in' the other night. very interesting. i'm not a big movie 'connoisseur' but i can recognize when a movie is something more, something a bit special. the colours in this film struck me the most (ofcourse- always looking for appealing colour palettes), along with the story. creepy but sweet in a way, with some humour. it removes the overblown 'fantasy' from typical vampire stories (i'm looking at you van helsing) and gives the vampire (in this case, twelve year old eli) a believable human personality, struggling with the problems being a vampire entails, making the premise feel more real.

EDIT: i figured out how it got stuck in my head! back around christmas we watched snatch and its in this scene. haha! so strange how my brain brings it up a month later. the song gives me weird butterflies. i love it when that happens with music.

santos had a play date this weekend with some fellow whippets and got a good run at the park. we found out she runs like a spazz. she was watching sprocket and cricket run around so hopefully she picked up some tips for next time!

graphic t-shirts? i kinda made an effort to weed out all graphic t-shirts from my wardrobe a few years ago (besides my vintage doors tee) now i'm feeling a select few, but i'm not sure if i'm going to act on them...



i was on the fence about this hysteric glamour t-shirt in tokyo. staring at it in the store for five minutes, feeling guilty holding it up. now i kind of wish i got it. (white version)

i know it's cliche in the 'blogging world' but emmanuelle alt hands down. she does everything right, all the time, and makes me not afraid of aging.

ummm... hard to say. i can't pick one. probably a tie between the y's boots i got in tokyo and my rick owens drkshdw waxed denim jacket. both i had loved for a long time and thought i would never find again, but made it to me somehow.

Biggest splurge.
everything over $200 is a splurge. "biggest" splurge i guess would be my isabel marant handbag.

What’s your beauty routine?
lots of stuff. i fell in love with shu uemura's moisture products while in japan and found that it has helped my skin a lot, so i'm currently using those, a dermamed cleanser, and from time to time i use dr. hauschka steam bath and clay mask. i want to find some 'preventative' anti-aging products though.

What jewelry do you never take off?
i don't wear jewelry at home. my 3 pieces i always wear (but not all at once- only one at a time) are my skull necklace from jon, my bird skull necklace, and the thorn earrings my mom got me for xmas.

What are you wishing for?
a lot of things. especially a new handbag. i always start to save and then other things come up. tied with the ann demeulemeester boots on my column to the left. i was 'thisclose' to bidding on a pair on ebay but they ended at $1500 :(

What are your obsessions?
shoes, rick owens, those damn demeulemeester boots and this spring's sandals.

actually, i love prints with lots of white ground and a totally random look to them. with minimal colours.

i've been thinking more about things to add to my wardrobe to make it work better. over the past few weeks i've had a few business trips, dinners, and realized that i am missing a few things.


i like this acne dress (from la garconne) it has short sleeves, which is more suited to springtime in vancouver (not warm enough for sleeveless or straps)


i also like this rachel comey cut-out sweater.


this vanessa bruno skirt is exactly the kind of skirt i am looking for, but at $459 (and that's on sale at 30% off!) it's a bit much. it sure is pretty though.



santos is doing better with house training. she even had an exciting outing yesterday, going to work with jon in the afternoon and playing with another puppy there. she even got so comfortable as to claim the other dog's crate and toys. it was nice to hear she wasn't a pushover, as we were getting worried that she was acting too scared around other dogs.

1. i love natural history and ancient civilizations. not quite sure what made me end up studying fashion! i have a secret desire to go back to school and become a paleontologist or something.

2. i never thought i would love japan as much as i did. i thought it would be great to shop there and to sight see, but i never thought i would want to move there. i really want to live there at some point in my life. preferably soon. after i learn how to speak japanese...there are too many things i miss. food, stores, neighborhoods, bath products...

3. currently i'm listening to a lot of music from my youth. smashing pumpkins, nirvana, garbage, david bowie, the beatles, the cardigans, etc.

4. i hate driving. i love massive, effective, public transportation. paris, london, tokyo... love the metro in these cities. so easy to get anywhere you want and no driving.

5. i love folding things. blame it on working retail. nothing gives me greater satisfaction than a stack of perfectly folded t-shirts. i'm a self-aware shopper. if i pick up and unfold something i fold it back up properly... usually.

6. i have a secret love of playing video games. jon and i have a wii and a ps3, and i have to say i love the ps3. but sometimes video games give me a headache. i got this ninja game (ninja gaiden) and it was fun until i got stuck at one part and i can't figure out how to beat it (even with online guides- ok, now i've confessed my complete dorkyness) it gives me a migraine every time i try to play it.

7. sometimes i won't wear socks all day.
