i saw this really cool paper/fabric camouflage stuff in this one random booth. i asked them what it was and it is indeed some sort of laser-cut camouflage. it's made from a strong, papery type material (du-pont tyvek- thanks kenta). i'm going to look for some when i get home. i'm not sure what i would do with it yet, but its pretty cool.

maybe a room divider or curtain?
edit: also, the only brand that i was personally interested in, isaora, is a new line of outerwear out of new york. i particularly liked their booth aesthetics. i may need to incorporate some cinder blocks into our house, much to jon's probable chagrin.

i've been looking for one of those short french industrial stools for a while. i want one for our entry for putting on shoes and stuff.

hey kenta- yeah, that's what i thought it was. apparently they got it at a surplus store- i think the best one is in new west, non? maybe i'll try that one on granville first before driving too far. it reminds me of those burton jackets we had way back when in the store.
i was going to guess Magic.
That's a cool material.
tyvek is crazy material. you think of envelopes, etc but sometimes you drive by homes being built and they are wrapped in tyvek. super strong obviously...
how was the show? was it quieter than last or the same? ASR was abysmal. i am thinking it's on its last legs and will be deaded soon. i wish magic would leave vegas and go to nyc instead. or at least somewhere inspiring.
i like those tolix stools as well...but i like them when they are super beat up and weathered.
not too exciting. but that kind of stuff rarely excites me anymore.
i've been trying to find a source for the short tolix stools, but i can only find one in paris. there must be somebody in north america. i can find the tall stools and chairs no problem, but the short stools seem hard to come by.

Maybe you can call these people and ask them if they don't have any in to special order some??
i have a like-hate with trade shows...maybe b/c of the kind that they are, and where they are....i like them b/c i get to see old friends who you tend to see only at those things. also i love to style watch or get some good laughs too.
i am interested in the busy-ness of the shows to see how companies are dealing with the economy.
that new snow brand looks interesting. i like how the colors are solid. i can't stand the rainbow brite color craziness in snow anymore. although i do have a neon yellow jkt for riding. luckily it flips to black.
thanks for the link- i'll check them out.
yeah, it was nice to see a few people i haven't seen in a while- and you are right, it is fun to people watch. it was a plaid shirt convention there! i wish i counted how many i saw, i would surely lose track.
i read an article today that was saying that the snowboard companies aren't or won't be hit as hard as the ski companies because snowboarders are typically younger and not impacted by things that older (typically skiers) are (property values, interest rates, stock market, etc). just a theory. but i definitely saw a lot of carry-over across all brands. not much changed as far as styling, mostly just colour. an easy cost-effective update i guess.
another theory is that the industry is more weather-driven than effected by the economy. ie. if it's a good snow year it will be a good sales year regardless of the economy. not sure how true that is. it will be interesting to see what happens.
Hilarious that you posted that because these people our neighbors and the architects of our place, hung that camo in one of their large windows that face our unit a couple years ago. It looks great, and when I asked one of them what it was and she said camouflage I was pretty surprised. They always have such great creative solutions-guess it makes sense since it's their profession! It makes a great window covering.
.
P.S. I can ask them tonight where they sourced the material and pass it along. We are in the States, but I'm sure they'd be able to find out if it can be shipped to Canada.
borellana- no way- what a coincidence. that would be great if you could find out where they got it! shoot me an email if you find out. thanks!!
Sorry that it has taken me forever to get back to you! I talked to my neighbors and they told me they sourced it from a UK military surplus company that they found online. She couldn't remember the company though, and she said after she got the camo she started getting emails from them that were basically like, "BUY AN UZI!!". Ha, that sort of thing.
Sorry I wasn't of more help, but it looks like a military surplus might be your best bet. Good luck!
love that piece of paperfrabric. nice blog.
