paris day 1

merry christmas and happy new year! we're back from paris. excuse me while i slip into a depression...

ah paris. after trying to get some sleep on the plane to try and beat jet-lag (hard to do with a screaming baby) we arrived at cdg at around 9am paris time. the airline lost our main bag with all our toiletries, my makeup, hairdryer, flat iron, most of my shoes and a bunch of jon's clothing. for some reason i saw that coming so i packed most of my clothing in a carry-on, but we had to go and buy all new toiletries at the monoprix and 8 à huit. i. do. not. trust. checked. baggage. the plus side was that at least it was one less bag to lug onto the rer to paris.

after finding our hotel in the 5ème we set out to get something to eat and explore the st. germain area in the 6ème. we strolled through the jardin du luxembourg which then led to the apc surplus store, which unfortunately was closed. i found out later that they were in the process of moving the store, so it will be closed for at least 3 months. no cheap apc for me :( we ate at paul where i had a delicious chocolat chaud and a ham and cheese crépe.

i will go through the stores we visited in this area:

muji- can't remember the address
i got a great paris souvenir - the wooden paris monument set! so cute. i have it on our mantle.

heimstone - 23 rue du cherche-midi
lots of great pieces. i was surprised about the fabrics in person after seeing their clothing online. the mix of textures is even more evident (a crinkly linen with silk) in person. they also had a preview catalog of the spring collection, which looks great as well.

et vous - 69 rue de rennes
i was mainly looking for a jerome dreyfuss billy bag, which they had but only in a crinkled metallic colour, and i was looking for black. they also had a really great pair of suede ankle boots in black or brown for 300€ that look exactly like the isabel marant ones. i passed on those though, as i just got a similar pair on ebay. their knitwear was really nice too- lots of super soft cashmere sweaters.

claudie pierlot - 23 rue du vieux colombie
a small shop. i saw one plaid top i liked but decided to pass. i was a little thrown off by apc not being open so i wasn't ready to buy anything yet.

maje - 24 rue saint sulpice
i didn't find anything in here, but they had some really beautiful knits in vibrant yellow, but i didn't think i could pull off that colour.

isabel marant - 1 rue jacob
ah isabel marant. the first of many isabel shops i went to. i tried on a lot of pieces and ended up settling on two. the plaid top and short sleeve denim dress (which jon hates but i love!) they also had a really fabulous wool skirt with half-circle buttons i loved but they didn't have my size. their jewelry selection was also quite good. i was very tempted by the pear necklace. the window display is amazing! i had seen a picture of it before, but it is much more impressive in person- it actually beats!

ladurée - 21 rue bonaparte
what beautiful confections! it was quite busy so we didn't stay long.

les prairies de paris - 6 rue du pré aux clercs
was closed :(

christian louboutin - 38/40 rue du grenelle
swooon. i didn't dare enter for fear of losing control of my wallet.

deyrolle - 46 rue du bac
wow. so many animals! kind of creepy. i wanted to get a few butterflies to mount in a shadow box, but jon wouldn't set foot in the bug room.

paul smith - 22 boulevard raspail
jon was looking for a few things here, but no luck.

le bon marche - 24 rue de sèvres
we were pretty tired by this time, so jon parked on the couch on the first level while i explored. i fondled the famed balenciaga ikat dress, ann demeulemeester sheepskin jackets, and comme des garcons dresses. they had an amazing selection of lingerie. i should have got some but i didn't. i loved the eres swimsuits but they were too expensive for someone who only wears a swimsuit a handful of times in the summer. i forgot to look at jewelry and therefore wasn't able to get the bijoux du sophie skull necklace that i've wanted for 2 years! we tried to go back our last day (a sunday) hoping that it would be open, but it was closed.

after hitting up the monoprix and 8 à huit around our hotel to get some essentials that were in our lost bag, we retired early to our hotel room to get some rest for the next day.

Sorry to hear about your baggage nightmare. Good thinking you packed some stuff in your carry-on. Sounds like you had a great shopping trip, but shame about the A.P.C outlet. I had the same experience in Paris in August, rocking up to shops I'd been dying to visit, only to find them shut for the holidays. Looking forward to checking out Deyrolle next time, though I don't think my husband will fancy it much, either!

Wow!! I can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip! So fun. Happy new year! I really hope they don't loose my luggage on my trip to London in the spring! You've just reminded me to pack most of my clothes in the carry on.

aw, that's a sad story about the A.P.C. shop... i'm still suuuuuper-jealous about Isabel Marant, though!

HAPPY NEW YEARS Steph!! I'm sooo jealous that you got to go back to Paris! I love that Isabel Marant window too! I can't believe airlines and luggage...really, the next time I fly I refuse to check ANY baggage!! Do you at least get some money for what they lost?

that sucks about the apc store and your lost luggage. but you seriously scored at isabel marant! what a dream come true to go there. i keep coming back to this post and staring at your beautiful new blouse and dress. i've had my eye on those things for awhile from impulse seattle. but how great to go into the actual isabel marant store and see the whole collection! i've been thinking about doing a knock-off of that top....we'll see how it turns out.

ah yes, the baggage was a total nightmare- wait until you hear what happened on the way back! it did eventually show up 2 days later, but my outfits got thrown off because some of my shoes were in that bag! I HIGHLY recommend packing as much as you can into a carry-on including essentials like makeup and anything that would be a pain to buy again. Air Canada is ghetto! Never flying them again!

isabel marant was so amazing- i was like a giddy school girl! it was so hard to decide on what to get! there is more isabel marant to come in the next few posts as well ;)

the food was soo good! i'm craving those noodles!
